Montreal, March 26 - On Sunday, March 24, as part of the JUNO Awards celebrations, the Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced renewed and increased funding for the Canada Music Fund (CMF).
The Government of Canada will contribute $32 million over the next 2 years (2024-2025 and 2025-2026) to the Canada Music Fund (CMF), bringing the total available this year to $41 million, to "maintain measures to promote the careers of Canadian artists, while strengthening the competitiveness and stability of the Canadian music industry", according to the press release issued on Sunday.
As with all Canada Music Fund contributions, this investment will be administered by the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) for the English-language market, and by the Fondation Musicaction (Musicaction) for the French-language market.
"Musicaction is an important resource for GMMQ members. The foundation has enabled several independent artists to finance their sound recordings, via the Individual Initiatives program for example. We applaud Minister St-Onge's efforts and commitment to the Canadian music community," says Luc Fortin, President of the GMMQ.
This announcement comes a few months after a drop in the funding available to Musicaction. Federal funding will act as a very important lever for the development of our music across the country. This is good news for our community.
