Amendments to the Broadcasting Act (C-11): Professional artists' associations welcome passage
MONTREAL, April 27, 2023 /CNW/ - This long-awaited modernization was more than necessary to protect and safeguard our culture. Bill C-11 is a major effort to modernize the Broadcasting Act. The Union des artistes (UDA), the Guilde des musiciennes et musiciens du Québec (GMMQ), the Association des réalisateurs et réalisatrices du Québec (ARRQ) and the Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma (SARTEC), quickly took a stand in favour of the process and are delighted with its adoption today. Even if this bill does not impose the same obligations on foreign platforms as on Canadian broadcasters, such a reform was important and it will be up to the CRTC to ensure that it better supports Canadian artists and their talents.

Agreement in principle between the musicians and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec
Quebec City, January 18, 2023 - The musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec adopted an agreement in principle with the Orchestra last week by a clear majority. This negotiation process represented a turning point for the Orchestra's sustainability and future. Indeed, the musicians had been facing a virtual freeze in their salaries since their last collective agreement signed in 2015 and were hoping to obtain a salary catch-up so that they could earn a decent living. Considering that inflation alone was 6.1% for 2022 alone, it is clear that the 2015 wages were no longer sufficient for musicians to live decently. This new collective agreement allows musicians to achieve the key goals they set for themselves in this negotiation. The agreement will be retroactive to 2020 and will run through 2024.

June 23 - C-10: a missed opportunity, say Quebec artists' associations
After the adoption in extremis of Bill C-10 at third reading by the parliamentarians of the House of Commons, the Quebec artists' associations deplore the blockage immediately announced by some Conservative senators. While Ottawa seems to be running out of time to adopt this bill to reform the broadcasting law, the APASQ, AQAD, ARRQ, FNCC-CSN, GMMQ, SARTEC, TRACE, UDA and UNEQ deplore the fact that the possibility of finally subjecting digital giants to the same rules as Canadian companies has been squandered, despite the sustained efforts of Liberal and Bloc Québécois MPs and the support of the NDP.

June 7 - C-10: Quebec artists' associations encouraged by acceleration of parliamentary work
MONTREAL, June 7, 2021 /CNW Telbec/ - The APASQ, AQAD, ARRQ, FNCC-CSN, GMMQ, SARTEC, TRACE, UDA and UNEQ are pleased with the acceleration of parliamentary work brought about by the adoption in the House of Commons of a chai to complete the study of Bill C-10. For these associations of artists, authors and professionals in the arts and culture sector in Quebec, the use of the delaying tactic had become necessary because of the obstruction practiced by certain MPs in Ottawa.
